African Drumming Dancing Retreat
Every year we have a drum and dance retreat its a great time to learn, connect with other participants, make new friends and an wonderful cross cultural experience. Our facilitators are master drummers, dancers and singers from Africa and Brazil and some are also griots. Griots are historians of African culture masters of African music and dance, there history is kept alive orally by story telling and song and past on from one generation to the next. This ancient west African tradition is still alive today.
The Program
Each drum and dance session is 2 hours, the evenings will be spent jamming, with the m’bongi on Sunday night around the fire.
M’bongi ( healing circle)
One of the most ancient Zimbabwean traditions is a community gathering that is focused on healing & celebration using music, dance and storytelling. It will take place around a fire under the stars. This is an opportunity to experience the music in it’s true cultural context.
The Retreat will be held at Ballina Beach Village which is nestled on 15 acres between the white sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean and the Broadwater of the Richmond River.
